Childrens Film

Microcosms (film) directed by Claude Nuridsany & Marie Pérennou

Gorgeous documentary about the spectacular unseen micro world in a seemingly normal looking French meadow. Using revolutionary camera technology, artfully showcase the tiny world of insects. From this perspective the views are amazing and the detail is astonishing. And the music is amazing.

A film that adults can stand to watch with their kids, in fact even find more enjoyable than their kids.

At the launch of this post, this documentary is available on Netflix.

The Gruffalo/The Gruffalo's Child/Room on the Room

The Gruffalo (film) directed by Max Lang & Jakob Schuh

The Gruffalo's Child (film) directed by Johannes Weiland & Uwe Heidschotter

Room on the Broom (film) directed by Max Lang & Jan Lachauer

Beautifully executed short films about a half hour long. These films are based on the books of the same names by Julia Donaldson. The narrator and characters speak in British accents in soothing and predictable rhyme which give a polite and interesting cadence. The animation is stunning and appears almost like wood carvings. And finally the music is gorgeous.

These are films that adults can stand to watch with their kids. That's a good thing because my kids love to watch these over and over and over again, sometimes back-to-back.

At the launch of this post, these films are available on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
